Objective
Non-profit RICARES® hired me to redesign their brand, website, and recovery database. The initial objective was to take their existing brand and redesign so that the new brand was more inline with their identity. RICARES wanted a logo that was modern, clean and would connect visitors with their objective. Which is to assist members of the community in their addiction recovery, while also working with the State of Rhode Island and various organizations to help change the policy and perception of addiction and recovery.
Concept Development
I began the process by building some simple sketches of icons. At this point I wasn't worried about the final logo. I was working on finding icon elements that could represent addiction and recovery.

User Research:
I began the process by learning about RICARES and their mission. I also spent time learning about similar non-profits from around the world. I wanted to get a sense of the various ways all these non-profits conveyed addiction recovery and community support. I wanted to also learn how each individual State treated addiction and substance abuse and more importantly the role they play in the public perception of substance abuse and recovery.

Solution:
Spent a lot of time in the sketchpad to find the right icons or pieces that would make up the whole logo. I would send the sketches to the director of RICARES for her to share with her team during their morning meetings. We would discuss each sketch and what made it work or not work.
